چکیده

Ab.wacrThis paper presents ABROAD, an adaptive medium access control (MAC) protocol for reliable broadcast packet transmission in wireless networks. ABROAD incorporates a collision-avoidance handshake within each slot of a synchronous transmission schedule, allowing nodes to reclaim and/or rewe idle slots while maintaining bounded ac. cess delay. Thus, ABROAD provides worst-case performance guarantees while remaining adaptive to local changes in traffic load and node eonnectivity. We analyze the optimal worst-case performance of ABROAD, and show that there is a strict increase in the number of broadcast pack. cts per second ovcr a pure time division multiple access (TDMA) protocol. Extensive simulation confirms our analysis, and also demonslrates that ABROAD aulperfoms broadcast protocols based an reliable unicast packet delivery schemes, such as the IEEE 802.11 MAC standard.

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...

Random access MAC for efficient broadcast support in ad hoc networks

Wireless communications are becoming an important part of our everyday lifestyle. One major area that will have an enormous impact on the performance of wireless ad hoc networks is the medium access control (MAC) layer. Current random access MAC protocols for ad hoc networks support reliable unicast but not reliable broadcast. In this paper, we proposed a random access MAC protocol, Broadcast S...

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Reliable on-demand multicast routing with congestion control in wireless ad hoc networks

In this paper, we address the congestion control multicast routing problem in wireless ad hoc networks through the medium access control (MAC) layer. We first introduce the Broadcast Medium Window (BMW) MAC protocol, which provides reliable delivery to broadcast packets at the MAC layer. We then extend the wireless On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP) to facilitate congestion control in...
